BORN AS ONE OF US

So it was, that … she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger … Luke 2:6-7

Peter calls Jesus “man” in his sermon on the day of Pentecost.

Jesus … a Man attested by God to you … Acts 2:22

Jesus is one of us. This is especially true of believers.

By attributing the words of Psalm 22:22 to Jesus, Hebrews 2:11-12 reveals Jesus confessing Himself to be a brother of all believers.

… He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: "I will declare Your name to My brethren …

The closeness of Jesus with believers is further expressed in Hebrews 2:11-12 when the writer quotes again from Psalms 22:22.

In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.

When believers meet for worship and praise, Jesus is there.

The author of Hebrews also shows the kinship of Jesus with believers in 2:13 by attributing to Jesus a statement in Isaiah 8:17 expressing His need to live by faith. It reads:

"I will put My trust in Him."

In order to understand the closeness of the man Jesus with His believers read Hebrews 2:17-18:

… in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest … to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Jesus, by living as man on this earth, understands our weaknesses and trials and in His mercy He takes them to the Father.

Our best opportunity for intimate fellowship with our spiritual brother Jesus is by living out our oneness with Christ.
