CHRISTMAS AND THE NEW COVENANT

… then He (Jesus) said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  Hebrews 10:9-10

Those two verses tell us that it was the Father’s will to send His Son to this earth for Him to be offered as a sacrifice, and that by His death He took away the First Covenant that He might establish The New Covenant. These verses also tell us that we have entered the Kingdom of God through the death of Jesus.

But there is more. Hebrews 5:5-6 says:

So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek …”

The content of these two verses seems to say that on the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead, the Father said to Him, “Today I have begotten you, and You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” The words, “After the order of Melchizedek” mean for eternity.

Hebrews 7:12 says:

For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.

With Jesus as the only priest in God’s Kingdom, there had to be a New Covenant.

Second Corinthians 3:6 says that the New Covenant took away the arrangement of men keeping laws in the flesh to living under the guidance and power and teaching of the Holy Spirit. This all began with the birth of Jesus. What a great Christmas present.
