EVER-PRESENT COMFORTER

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.  John 14:26

The word translated “Helper” in this verse has the idea of encourager, exhorter and comforter.

John 14:17 says:

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Since the day of Pentecost, every person who has received Jesus as Lord and Savior has had the presence of the Holy Spirit in his life. Hebrews 13:5 says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This statement likely refers to God the Father but what the passage says is also true of God the Holy Spirit.

He is in us and, therefore, with us everywhere we go. He is in us to do the fullness of His work as God. He is with us to be our comforter at anytime of any day we are in need of a comforter.

John 14:26 says, “He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” The Holy Spirit has taught us Scripture that is stored away in our memory. Some of these passages can be instruments of comfort in our time of need. The Holy Spirit will remind us of them.

This significant possibility gives us good reason to continue receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit by living out the life of grace.

One person has said, “Understanding and living out the life of grace is so simple.” It is, and every believer should take advantage of the God-given privilege of experiencing it.
