INSTRUMENTS OF THE IMPOSSIBLE

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Matthew 19:26

Throughout the gospels, we read about the man Jesus doing what is impossible with man. Of course, He was still God, but He also was a man. As someone has said, “He came to behave like a man.” So, how can things impossible with man be done by man?

John 14:10 quotes Jesus saying, “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.” Jesus attributes the works He did to the Father “who dwells in Him.”

Amazingly, John 14:12 records Jesus saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

Then in John 14:17, Jesus says, “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” The Father dwells in those who are born again through the Holy Spirit who dwelt in Jesus.

Just as the Father did impossible works through the man Jesus, He does greater works of impossibility through men who continue to trust in Him. Jesus surely means “spiritual works” with the words “greater works” because mostly we do spiritual miracles rather than physical.

By using you to lead a person to Christ, God has used you to do the impossible. He has brought someone out of spiritual death to spiritual life. By using you to teach people how to live by grace, He has done the impossible of enabling them to understand and experience the life of grace.
