O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?" says the Lord. "Look, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!  Jeremiah 18:6

God is sending a message through Jeremiah to the Israelites who were not pleasing to Him. At the potter’s house, Jeremiah saw a clay object marred in the potter’s hand and then used to create a different object.

The message to the Israelites is that God will mar and remold them as the potter did the clay. God does the same thing in the lives of His children today. We came into the world as sinners needing to be marred and remade in another way.

The marring in the hands of the potter is God’s picture of how he will prepare believers for His use. It will be by giving his children circumstances too difficult for them to deal with.

In these times of desperation, God is removing from us our self confidence. God then grows our faith by delivering us from the circumstances. We see our need of continual dependence on Him.

God’s work as our potter marring our faith in ourselves and giving us faith in him assists us in living the life of grace.

All things work together for good to those who love the Lord. Romans 8:28

In everything give thanks. 1 Thessalonians 5:10

Many of God’s children have reached a new level of growth by believing the truths of these two verses.
