TURNING GOD'S PEOPLE BACK TO HIM

But if they had stood in My counsel, And had caused My people to hear My words, Then they would have turned them from their evil way And from the evil of their doings.  Jeremiah 23:22

God directed this statement to the false teachers. It is a clear statement of how one can turn God’s people back to Him. The Old Testament reveals the recurring need for God’s children to return to Him. Pages of the New Testament shout this same theme.

Today many spiritual leaders have a heavy burden on their hearts to bring some of their disciples back to a closer walk with God. Some leaders have concluded that their efforts have failed. Nothing they have tried has worked. God’s words in Jeremiah 23:22 are words of guidance for present day spiritual leaders. It is a simple message—spiritual leaders are to bring to their disciples words from God.

It is one thing to work hard to prepare a message that we believe will bring people to God. It is another thing to receive and deliver words that come directly from God.

Receiving our messages from God does not rule out the necessity for study. It does mean that study is not the only factor in our preparation for teaching. Paul’s statement in Colossians 3:1-2 about setting our minds on things above is good advice for all who proclaim God’s word. He wrote:

If (Since) then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

All Christians have been seated with Christ at the right hand of God. However, not all of us are experiencing intimate communion with God from this position.

We can receive words from God when we experience our place of enthronement with Jesus at the right hand of the Father.

We have this experience when we live out our union with Christ. In this position, we become God’s instruments to bring His people who are not walking with Him back to Him.
