MESSAGES FROM THE SPARROWS

Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.  LUKE 12:6-7

When Jesus says, “… you are of more value than many sparrows”, He indicates that there is value in sparrows. It is said that many years ago, sparrows were used as pets. Assuming that is what Jesus had in mind, we can see one value in a sparrow. Yet, even though sparrows have little value, not one of them is forgotten by God.

What Jesus says about sparrows and us speaks of 2 truths important to every believer.

One truth is that we are not forgotten of God. The Psalmist said, “If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me” (Psalm 139:9-10).

In our darkest days, we can be sure that God will take us through to victory. In our smallest needs, He is there. In living out our responsibilities of the day, He will guide and enable us.

The second message is that we are of great value. We are valuable to world and valuable to God.

We are the potential instruments of God to bring blessing to others and glory to God. One of the saddest things in the Christian world is that there are so many who believe they cannot be used by God.

All a believer has to do to be valuable to God and to others is to make Himself available to God through living out his union with Christ.
