SING TO THE LORD A NEW SONG

Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the Earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Psalm 96:1-2

A pastor began his message at the funeral of a very young lady with, “The Bible encourages us to sing a new song. If I knew how to write a song and how to sing, I would sing a new song now.”

The young lady was a very gracious lady, but for years she would not receive Jesus as Lord and Savior even though she fully agreed with those who would encourage her to do so.

However, several weeks before the funeral service, she was told by her doctor that she had cancer. Immediately, she gave her life to the Lord. Immediately, she became a joyful and convincing witness for the Lord. All of those at the service were amazed at the things that had happened in her life.

The pastor made his comments about a new song because of the immediate and radical work of God in the life of the young lady. He could sing a new song because he had witnessed a new work of God.

We can all sing new songs when we permit God to give us new insights about Himself, His Son, His Spirit and His ways. We can sing new songs when we give attention to God’s miraculous works in our lives and others, by becoming serious and passionate student of the Bible and by receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Most of us will not literally sing about the new works of God we have seen and experienced, but we will rejoice as though we have a new song in our hearts.
