LIVING IN THE WORLD OF THE MIRACULOUS

The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.  Isaiah 50:4

Four passages in the Book of Isaiah are known as servant passages. These passages are prophecies about Jesus. Isaiah 50:4 is a verse in the third servant passage. The prophecy of this verse is that Jesus was awakened each morning to receive words for the weary and words of guidance from the Father. The gospels imply that often Jesus awoke to learn of miracles the Father would do through Him that day. Jesus lived in a world of miracles.

All believers are called to live in a world of miracles—miracles in us and through us. What believer has not experienced answers to his prayers for himself and others that came in the form of the miraculous? A believer should never hesitate to pray for God to do things that are impossible for man to do. In many seemingly impossible situations God is just waiting for someone to ask Him to perform a miracle and give them a victory.

Beyond prayer, consider another way God uses His believers to do the miraculous. Jesus says in John 14:12:

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Most of the miracles that Jesus performed were in people’s physical bodies. A “greater work” would be to do miracles for people’s emotional and spiritual needs. We can do this by living out our union with Christ and by teaching other believers about their union with Christ.

And consider Paul’s statement in 1 Corinthians 10:31.

… whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

A major way God glorifies Himself is through miraculous works. Christians who live out their union with Christ are continually available for God to work miracles through them. May we never lose sight of the fact that God wants His children to live for Him in the world of the miraculous?
