ALIVE FROM THE DEAD

… present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead …  Romans 6:13b

Romans 6:12 and 6:13a command us not to make our bodies available to our sin nature—our know-it-all attitude. On the contrary we are to present—make available—ourselves to the Lord ready for Him to use us in His service (Romans 6:13b).

Because of the context in which they are found, the words “as those alive from the dead” would be understood as those spiritually crucified and resurrected. Presenting yourself to God as one crucified is presenting yourself to Him free of self-confidence,  self-centeredness and filled with the Holy Spirit.

Since God has “raised us [believers] up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6), we present ourselves to Him while in His presence.

When we, then, present ourselves to God for ministry as one crucified and resurrected, the Father and the Holy Spirit are involved in the ministry with us. Because our selfishness and our self-confidence are not involved, victory will come.

Following the words “as those alive from the dead” in Romans 6:13 are the words “and [present] your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” When we make available the parts of our bodies to the Lord, He will take them and do works of righteousness. The Holy Spirit also will be at work in and through us as we perform the ministry.

A big part of the abundant life Jesus promised in John 10:10 is the joy and sense of fulfillment God puts in our hearts when we permit Him to use us in blessing others.
