OUR OTHER HELPER (2)

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning. John 15:26-27

There are several names that Jesus and New Testament writers use to speak of the Holy Spirit. In this verse, Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “The Spirit of Truth.”

There are several things this could mean. He will tell us the truth about the Father and the Son. He will tell us the truth about ourselves. He will tell the unsaved about themselves and what their eternal destiny would be.

When we are filled with our Helper, the Spirit of truth, we will be people of truth. We will tell others the truth. This, of course, is a great need worldwide in this day. It also could mean that he will reveal to us the truth. This could be of many different things. For example, a young servant of the Lord was given a job at his work. He had no idea of what to do. He asked the Father how he should go about doing the strange task. In a manner of minutes not only had he been told what to do, but he also had done it.

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit and read our Bibles, our other helper will teach us the meaning of statements that we would not have ever understood on our own. This is one of the greatest advantages that Jesus was talking about when He said that it was to our advantage that He go to the Father and send us the other Helper.

Also in our verses today Jesus says that our other Helper would testify of Him. This likely is the idea that the Holy Spirit will teach us truths about Jesus that will cause us to mature as Christians. These truths will build our faith.

These two verses also tell us that when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we also will testify of Jesus. We will tell other believers about the lives of victory that we can live. We will tell the unsaved about Jesus and His desire to enter their lives. One evidence that we are filled with the Spirit is our desire and willingness to tell the unsaved about Him.
