OUR OTHER HELPER

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever–the Spirit of truth.  John 14:16-17

They say that the word “another” means “another just like me.” The Holy Spirit enters the lives of all who have received Jesus as Lord and Savior. Romans 8:9 calls the Holy Spirit “the Spirit of Christ.”

The other helper—the Holy Spirit— will guide us into all truth (John 16:13). Anyone who has read any of the 4 gospel accounts of the life of Jesus knows that one of the most important parts of His ministry was teaching.

In addition, John 16:13 continues with, “… whatever He (the Holy Spirit) hears He will speak. John 8:26 records Jesus saying, “He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.” Jesus would say what He heard the Father say. The Holy Spirit says what the Father says. Jesus and the other Helper have ministered in the same way.

In John 14:18 Jesus says, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” With the words orphans Jesus reveals the immaturity of His followers and their need of more teaching and maturity. In the Holy Spirit, the followers of Jesus will still have the same guidance into maturity as they had from Jesus in His earthly body. They would not be orphans. We can take this promise for ourselves. There is no reason we should live without divine guidance and divine empowerment into spiritual maturity.

Sadly, not many believers are interested in growing beyond the orphan stage and learning more about God the Father, Jesus the Son, the Holy Spirit, heaven, hell and the resources a Christian has for a victorious life and maturing in their Christians lives. This is a major cause of the present moral conditions of life on planet earth. The Holy Spirit, resides in every believer and is being ignored.

In the coming weeks, this devotional ministry will have more to say about the Holy Spirit who is “Our Other Helper.”
