fools

Professing … to be wise, they became fools …Romans 1:22

We are fools for Christ's sake … 1Corinthians.4:10

From a biblical standpoint, there are two types of fools. Paul in Romans 1:22 mentions one type when he says those who profess to be wise become fools. Here he refers to all who are born into the human race. Then in 1 Corinthians 4:10 he describes those who are fools for Chris’s sake.

Following Paul’s statement about professing to be wise and becoming a fool is a list of sins into which the foolish will fall. It is very unlikely any one person will be guilty of all of them. But all of us together will be guilty of them all.

Those who continue to live out the foolish life of one who thinks he is wise is a fool in the eyes of God—and often in the eyes of others and even in his own eyes.

In 1 Corinthians 4:10 Paul speaks of himself and others as being  fools for Christ’s sake. Those who are fools for Christ’s sake are fools only in the eyes of man.

People designate followers of Christ as fools for various reasons. In verses 11-13 Paul explains why he is a fool for Christ. He writes:

To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

There is no way of our knowing the sacrifices being made and the suffering being endured around the earth because of lives fully available to the Lord. We do know that many believers today are giving their lives because they are followers of the Lord Jesus.

Without doubt most, if not all, of those around the earth who are fully available to Jesus are looked upon as fools.

We can also rejoice that those who are fully available to Jesus are filled with the joy of the Lord and a deep sense of fulfillment.
