GOOD NEWS

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16

The word translated “Gospel” means “Good News.” Those of us who have been born again by hearing about Jesus dying on the cross for our salvation testify that the gospel is good news. There are many stories about sinners who knew there was something more to life than what they were experiencing but did not know what it was. It was good news when they heard that Jesus has made a way for their forgiveness and change.

However, the conversion of one who has received the good news of Jesus making possible forgiveness and change is just the beginning of the good news of the Gospel. The list of the good news items are found in the Bible. When one becomes a student of the Bible, he continually finds other elements of the good news Jesus has provided. Consider a few of them.

There are multiple Scriptures telling us of the privilege and power of prayer. Jesus stated, “Ask and it shall be given you, seek and you shall fine, knock and it shall be opened to you.” The good news of what Jesus has made possible includes the way to be free from the sins that we repent of over and over.

Jesus promised, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Scripture tells us that we can have the same resource of power and character that Jesus has. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control.” We receive this by being filled with the Holy Spirit—which Jesus has also made possible.

Another blessing of the good news is that we are commanded to tell others about it. We can tell the lost that Jesus made provision for them to be saved. We can tell the saved that there is more to the good news than just being saved. There is joy in our hearts when one responds positively to our witness.
