THAT MINISTRY OF LISTENING

When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!         (Matthew 8:10)

Jesus had just listened to a centurion make a great statement of faith.

Someone asked a group the following question: “Other than dying on the cross for us, in ministering to others can you think of anything Jesus ever did other than use his voice and use the ability to touch?”

After a brief pause someone said, “Yes, He listened.” There may have been other answers to the question, but this one was true and important. Jesus was a great listener.

We are to listen to God Who teaches and guides us. We are to listen to others to show our love and interest and to understand their needs.

Someone has said, “If you will give a child your full attention, it may be the first time he has ever had such an experience.” It can also be said that if we give an adult our full attention, it may be one of the few times he has ever had such an experience.

When we live out the five imperatives of Romans 6:11-13, we will give our ability to listen to the control of our Father. Our Father will guide us in ministry. One of those ministries will be that of being a good listener.
