The following devotional was originally published by David Kuykendall on June 4, 2000.

AND HOW DOES A BELIEVER EXPERIENCE GOD’S GRACE?

“The grace of God is everything God is-moving freely toward you to meet your every need.”

What a comforting and encouraging thought! But how does a believer experience that grace? The answer is in the believer knowing he was crucified, buried, and resurrected at conversion to Christ AND in obeying five commands based on these truths. Below is a treatment of those five commands.

Command one: Reckon (believe) yourself to be dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:11). “Sin” here refers to our sin nature, and our sin nature is a know-it-all attitude. We think we are wise. We are to believe we do not have to live out of our wisdom but may live out of God’s.

Command two: Let not sin reign in your mortal body (Romans 6:12). This is a command not to live out of our own wisdom but out of God’s. It is actually a command to give up our own point of view-about everything-and to live out of  God’s point of view-about everything.

Command three: Do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin (Romans 6:13a). This is a command to refuse to give even one part of our bodies to our own wisdom.

Command four: Present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead (Romans 6:13b). This is a command to yield yourself to God as one who is crucified, buried, and resurrected.

Command five: And [present] your members as instruments of righteousness to God (Romans 6:13c). This is a command to give every part of your body to God and He will do His works of righteousness through them. (Example: God will use your speaking apparatus to tell others about salvation through Jesus).

Continuously obey these verses and continuously receive God as the resource for your life.
