SUBMIT TO THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Romans 10:4

Referring to the Israelites Paul had written in verse 3, “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.” The covenant at Mount Sinai demanded that the Israelites keep the law—the Ten Commandments and the other laws of that covenant—by their own wisdom and strength.

In verse 4, Paul is saying that Jesus has done away with the need of trying in human effort to be righteous. Hebrews 8:13 declares that the First Covenant no longer exists. Paul is saying the same thing.

The context of Romans 10:4 speaks of one becoming righteous by receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior. At that time, we were declared righteous. Scripture calls this Justification. At that time, we were made righteous because the Holy Spirit was joined with our spirit.

The New Testament reveals that we are to grow in righteousness by living out our oneness with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection and not by keeping the law.

Unfortunately, many unsaved people believe that the good moral life they lead will be righteousness enough for them to be accepted by God. They are in great need of hearing the message of salvation through Jesus.

Many believers who know they have been saved by faith attempt to grow in righteousness through their own efforts at living a morally clean life and doing good works. They are in great need of hearing of their oneness with Christ.
