BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT - NOW

“Be filled with the Spirit” Ephesians 5:18.

It has been said often that this command is in a tense that indicates continual action. If we obey this command, then, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit throughout each day.

We do not deserve to be filled with the Spirit any more than we deserved to become God’s child. The words “be filled” indicate that the filling is something we receive-not something we accomplish. So, how do we receive this filling of God’s Spirit?

We have already indicated that we are filled with the Holy Spirit by obeying the five commands of Romans 6:11-13. But we must be more specific.

Jesus said to the woman at the well. “The water that I give you will be in you a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The Holy Spirit has been seeking to fill us from the very moment we received Jesus as Lord and Savior.

The Spirit yearns to fill us-and we long to be filled. Then why are we not filled? Galatians 5:17 provides the answer. Our flesh is the barrier. “The flesh lusts against the Spirit.”

To remove the barrier of the flesh and receive the filling of the Spirit, we obey the five commands of Romans 6:11-13.

We obey, though, with the understanding that the word “sin” in the passage refers to our “flesh.” And our flesh is our attitude that we are wise. Also, we obey understanding that we are already crucified, buried, and resurrected.

Enjoy the abundant life of being the instrument of God to a needy world by continually being filled with the Spirit.
