WE CAN AND WILL BE EVANGELISTS

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.  Acts 1:8

Notice that this statement of Jesus is not a command. It is a prophecy. Jesus knew that when a believer is filled with the Holy Spirit, he can and he will tell others about Jesus. They need no motivation from without. Consider these statements from the Book of Acts.

When the 120 people in the upper room were filled with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit drew people to them, they all began to witness. About 3000 were saved.

However, do not be discouraged if people are not saved. You can’t make that happen. One definition of successful witnessing is, “Witness in the power of the Holy Spirit and leave the results up to God.”

A Scripture relating an incident when Peter spoke about Jesus begins with, “And Peter filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 4:31 reports about the followers of Jesus with these words, “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

All believers who are filled with the Holy Spirit need no encouragement from man to tell people about salvation through Jesus. The Holy Spirit who is in them is the one who provides the effective motivation.

Our emphasis needs to be on the filling of the Holy Spirit through living out our oneness with Christ.
