WAITING HEARTS

“… And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”  Isaiah 42:4c

Isaiah 42:4 is part of one of the well-known “Servant” passages in the Book of Isaiah. In verses 1-4 the Father is speaking about His Son. In verse 1b the Father says:

“I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.”

In light of the New Testament truths, “bringing forth justice to the Gentiles” must mean taking the gospel to the Gentiles.

The Father tells how the Son will not spread the gospel:

“He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench …”  Isaiah 42:2-3a

In 42:3b the Father explains how the Son will spread the gospel:

“…He will bring forth justice for truth.”

Evidently the meaning of 42:3c is that He will spread the message of the gospel by spreading the truth.

In Isaiah 42:4 the Father is quoted as saying:

“He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands shall wait for His law."

The “coastlands” is a reference to those in distant places and “His law” is a reference to the gospel. The Father is saying that there are those in distant lands waiting for the Gospel of Jesus.

As Jesus, touched by the Spirit, had a vision for the whole world, so do believers have that same vision today.

As we lead others to experience their union with Christ, they will be the filled with the Spirit. Then, these believers will have a desire to help spread the Gospel of Jesus to “waiting hearts” around the earth.
