BEARING THE BRUNT OF INFIDELITY

And your sons shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years, and bear the brunt of your infidelity, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness.  Numbers 14:33

With these words, God pronounced His judgment on the Israelites for their faithlessness. Ten of the 12 men who had gone into the Promised Land to search it out came back saying, “We will not be able to take this land. There are giants there.” Almost all of the Israelites joined them in their faithlessness.

The choice not to go in and take the land was also the rejection of a promise of God that He would give them the land. This resulted in 40 more years in the wilderness until all the men of war (Deuteronomy 2:16) 20 years and older would die before the conquest of the Promised Land would begin.

Do we not see the same thing happening today? Many times Christian parents who live without faith in God limit the blessings of God on themselves, their children and others. The same thing happens in churches when a few unbelieving church members keep their church from doing the will of God in an adventure of faith. This will always result in God holding back blessings. Children, churches and others bear the brunt of the unbelief of others.

God did not call us to a life and ministry that we could accomplish on our own. His call for all believers is to a life that enables Him to  make things happen—both in us and through us.

When parents and church members see what they are doing by spreading unbelief to others, some may desire to change. They need to know and choose the life of grace.

Galatians 5:22 says that the fruit of the Spirit is … faith. May we all walk in grace and receive a faith to pass on to our children, our grandchildren and fellow church members. Romans 10:17 says, “…faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
