LIVING A LIFE OF FORGIVENESS

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if there was no such thing as forgiveness?

There would be no such thing as communion with God because the Bible teaches that sin separates us from God.

If there were no forgiveness, there would be far fewer marriages because most couples would realize that the marriage would never last. And the marriages that did not dissolve would be a constant miserable existence. Husbands and wives would continuously have anger and resentment toward each other.

If there were no forgiveness, there could be no happy and fulfilling families because parents would find fault with their children and the children would be filled with resentment toward their parents.

If there were no forgiveness, there would be no churches because no one would have respect for or confidence in fellow church members.

All of the statements above are true because there are no perfect people in this life. We have all sinned. We have all offended others. Others have offended us all.

But, praise God, there is such a thing as forgiveness. When we confess our sins, God forgives us. And by God’s grace we can forgive others and treat them as if the offending action had never happened.

And we can have that spirit of forgiveness if we live out the five imperatives of Romans 6:11-13. We will find God’s grace sufficient for forgiveness as well as for all other life needs.
