Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Those Faithful Ones

“Well done, good and faithful servant” is one of the better known statements of the New Testament. And we all would love to hear the Lord speak them to us on the day of judgment.

“God is faithful” is another statement of Scripture with which many of God’s children are familiar. We lean on them in our times of stress and grief. And we would love to demonstrate that quality of our Father to those around us.

The Book of Proverbs indicates, though, that faithfulness may be more rare than we realize.

Prov. 20:6  Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?

The book also declares the sadness of unfaithfulness.

Prov. 25:19  Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.

But then the book mentions the blessedness of faithfulness.

Prov. 25:13  Like the cold of snow in time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, For he refreshes the soul of his masters.

Surely. all of God’ children prefer the life that is “the cold of the snow at the time of harvest” rather than being to others “a foot out of joint.” And we can be the blessing rather than the burden.

Galatians 5:22 declares that the fruit of the Spirit if “faithfulness.” When we are filled with the Spirit, we are faithful.

And when we obey the five imperatives of Romans 6:11-13, we will be faithful because we will be filled with the Spirit.
