Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

The Greatest Gift

What is the greatest love-gift of  all? Christians everywhere would surely say it is God’s gift of His son. In John 3:16 we read:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

This is the true meaning of Christmas. God loved! God gave! We received! Because God loved and gave, and we received, we have the possibility of abundant life here on earth. We also have the certainty of abundant life in eternity with God.

It is wonderful to see that even the non-believers catch the spirit of love and giving during the Christmas season. Many families who are non-believers gather in love. Many serve meals, give clothes and blankets to the poor and needy.

Believers also have the spirit of love. We too feed the hungry and give clothing to the poor. But we do much more.

We express our love to God for the greatest gift that has ever been given, Jesus Christ.  We show our God-given love to each other. We understand why Jesus came to earth. We tell the story to others -- the story  of the Christ child coming to this earth to be the Savior. We tell how accepting Him as Savior can give them eternal life. Some respond and receive Him. Then they have the life that is abundant.

We have in us not just a human love but a divine love that only comes from God.

Those who live out the five imperatives of Romans 6:11-13 are actually “filled” with the love of God.
