Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Now All Things Are of God

Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ.  2 Corinthians 5:19a

We could make this statement about our inner lives if we were walking perfectly in the Spirit.

We can make the statement about our outer lives. All of our outer circumstances are God-given. The sovereignty of God is declared in both the Old and New Testaments. Examples of this can be found in Isaiah and Ephesians.

For the LORD of hosts has purposed, And who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, And who will turn it back?”  Isaiah 14:27

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.  Ephesians 1:11

Think of all the tragedy in the early life of Joseph: the treatment he received from his brothers and the undeserved suffering he experienced in his early days in Egypt. Following the death of Jacob, Joseph’s brothers feared that he would wreak vengeance on them. But Joseph reassured them with the following words:

… you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.  Genesis 50:19-20

Joining Joseph, Isaiah, and Paul in understanding the sovereignty of God puts an entirely new face on the command “In all things give thanks”  1 Thessalonians 5:18.
