Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

No More Pity Parties

… giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ …Ephesians 20

We feel sorry for ourselves when our minds are on ourselves and our unfortunate circumstances. We can be through with our pity parties when we live with our minds on God and others,

One way to get our minds off of ourselves and on to God is by continually receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit as commanded in Ephesians 5:18 and “giving thanks always for all things.”

Seeing God in all of our circumstances, even the painful ones, we will thank Him for the circumstance rather than feeling sorry for ourselves.

We receive the filling of the Holy Spirit when we experience the crucifixion of our flesh. The Holy Spirit is in all believers and desires to fill them. Galatians 5:17 teaches that the only barrier to our being filled with the Holy Spirit is the flesh.

Second Corinthians 5:14-15 also shows that we can be free of feeling sorry for ourselves when we experience our spiritual crucifixion. Those verses say:

For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

The passage teaches that when Jesus died for us, we died with him. When we experience that spiritual death, we no longer live for ourselves but for Jesus who died for us and rose again.

We can all praise God for all the victories we have because Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected as “The Last Adam.”
