Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Looking to the Future

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.  2 Timothy 2:2

It is believed that the Book of 2 Timothy is the last letter Paul wrote. He was in prison in Rome for the second time. Soon his life would be taken because he was a preacher of the gospel.

Knowing that his life would soon end, Paul was concerned about the future of the truths God had revealed to him.

Naturally, he was concerned about the continuing of the message of how to become a Christian. Paul reveals his concern for the spread of the message of the believer’s union with Christ in a statement he wrote to the church in Corinth.

… I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.  1 Corinthians 4:17

All who experience their union with Christ in crucifixion, burial and resurrection know that they have finally found the abundant life Jesus promised in John 10:10. The experience has become such a joy to them that they want every believer to have the quality of life God has given to them.

We join Paul in his desire that those we have taught will keep the message going forth to others who will teach yet others the same truths.

Paul’s desire, and ours, is that this message goes from one generation to the next remaining alive until the return of our Lord. Since only a few in our time have knowledge of their oneness with Christ, some generation of the past failed to keep it alive. May God deliver our generation from such a failure.
