Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Don't Wait to Be Wise

Happy is the man who finds wisdom … Proverbs 3:13

You have likely heard some elderly man described as a “wise old man.” It is true that in most cases, the longer a person lives, the more he gains wisdom.

However, it is not necessary for a person to be old in order to have wisdom. Consider a well-known statement of Scripture and one that is not so well known. A well-known statement about receiving wisdom is James 1:5-6.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

When one needs and wants wisdom from God, he can have it just by asking for it—when he asks in faith.

The passage that is not well known is 1 Corinthians 1:30. This verse says:

But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

When one continually lives out his “in Christ” position, Jesus is continually his life and his wisdom from God.

We need wisdom for the activities of this day. That wisdom will be available as we live out our oneness with Christ. We need not wait for years of experience before possessing it.
