Living by Grace

Dedicated to providing guidance in daily living through the power of God's grace as experienced in our union with Christ.

Baptized into Jesus

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:27-28

First Corinthians 12:12-13 says, “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” Romans 6:3 says that all of God’s children have been baptized into Christ.

Three times the New Testament tells of our baptism into Jesus. First Corinthians 12:12-13 makes it plain that our baptism into Him was not by water but by the Holy Spirit.

Since all born-again believers are baptized into Christ, we are all one with Christ. Since we are all in Christ and one with Christ, we are one with each other.

John 17:21-23 records Jesus asking three times that His followers may be one. Jesus knew that we would be one, but His prayer surely is that we may experience our oneness each other. Cultural, economic, educational, and theological factors separate us. Our baptism into Jesus by the Holy Spirit unites us.

It is beautiful when such things as evangelistic events unite us. We saw that numerous times in the Billy Graham crusades. Part of the power for the success of those events could have been the result of the living out our oneness in spite of our differences.

Living out our oneness with Christ not only brings great personal blessing, but it also helps to answer the prayer of Jesus and to bring blessing to others.
